Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal 

We almost did a straight-up Young for Pascal Siakam swap here. Ultimately, we decided Toronto wouldn’t go for it. 

After all, the idea would be to pair the two stars, wouldn’t it? The Raptors aren’t making a lateral move here. They’re making an all-in push to get back to title contention. 

Defensively, they’re got the roster to cover Young on defense. The Raptors are stacked with defensive wings. If they can replace Anunoby at cost in free agency, and retain Jakob Poeltl, they’ll have the perfect roster for Young in that sense. 

They could arguably use more spacing around him. At the same time, guys like Siakam and Scottie Barnes may hit a higher percentage of their threes with the defensive attention that Young draws.

All told, it’s a gamble worth taking for the Raptors. If nothing else, it helps them avoid a rebuild.
