Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
Realistically, it depends on what the Rockets have offered Johnson as a restricted free agent here.
In all likelihood, it’ll be in the neighborhood of $20 million per season. The Nets may deem that too high of a cost. This team is already stacked with 3-and-D wings – can they afford to sink so much into another one?
On the other hand, Tate and Porter Jr. are both on extremely team-friendly deals. Porter Jr.’s contract is laden with incentives and mechanisms that allow his team to cut him if they so choose. Meanwhile, Tate is simply cheap.
They’re both solid players, too. Tate is a multi-positional defender who offers some playmaking. Porter Jr. seems to have maturity issues, but he is a solid shot-creating combo guard.
