Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal
The Lakers don’t need to worry about Ingram’s injury proneness. Davis is just as likely to get hurt.
They may need to worry about the relationship between Davis and LeBron James. Some reports suggest that it’s beginning to fray. If that is true, it provides a solid enough reason for the Lakers to move Davis.
Getting Ingram in return would certainly suffice. In the short term, he and James may make for a more dynamic offensive pairing. Ingram is a better floor spacer than Davis and a better perimeter scorer in general.
On the other hand, in the long term, this is about preparing for life after James. At 38, he won’t be able to produce like this forever. This deal gives the Lakers a brighter future.
