Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal
The Pelicans may not be dying to split up their superstar duo of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. On the other hand, they may have good reason to do so.
This season, it looks as if both are injury prone. In that event, the Pelicans are in a bind. If they can’t rely on either of their best players to be available, how can they expect to succeed?
This deal alleviates that issue. It also has the Pelicans gambling that Barrett will unlock the rest of his potential alongside his college teammate.
Ideally, he and Williamson’s chemistry will translate at the professional level.

Even if it doesn’t, this deal also has the Pelicans receiving a much-needed rim protector in Robinson. Throw in a pair of first-round picks, and it’s a good value return for Ingram if they feel forced to move him.
