Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
Saying goodbye to Green won’t be easy for the Warriors. The team only has financial incentives to do so.
After all, this core has gotten tremendously expensive. Jordan Poole’s extension kicks in next season, and Green is due for a new pact the season after. The Warriors may not be able to afford it.
With that in mind, trading for Bertans will be a questionable decision for some. It shouldn’t be. Sure, his contract is suboptimal, but it’s moveable. It’s also under control – Green should earn a deal that far exceeds his annual income.
Meanwhile, Kleber is locked into a team-friendly contract and can replace some of Green’s production.
