Why The New Orleans Pelicans Do The Deal 

Injuries. We hate to say it, but injuries are a large part of why the Pelicans would do this. 

Williamson has developed a nasty reputation for getting hurt. Here’s the difficulty – Ingram gets hurt too. That leaves the Pelicans with two stars they can’t rely on. 

In that regard, this is about taking a reset. The Pelicans should still be competitive next season if Williamson is healthy – they’re bringing in two quality veterans here.

If Williamson isn’t healthy, their hopes are dashed anyway.

On the other hand, they’re also getting three first-round picks. They could use that draft capital to trade for another star down the line – hopefully, this one is more durable.
