In fact, it wouldn’t be controversial to say that Robinson has one of the worst contracts in the NBA.
The Heat awarded it to him because of his elite movement shooting. To be sure, that’s a valuable specialization. Unfortunately, Robinson is too significant of a defensive liability to justify the expense.
By contrast, Johnson is a stout defender. He’s also an elite movement shooter.
That’s the point here – the Heat are replacing Robinson with a functionally similar offensive player who’s also solid on the defensive end of the floor.

That’s a trade-off they’d have to take. If the Heat feel like they’re a 3-and-D away from contention, it’s one that’s worth the cost of a future first-round pick, too.
