For the Nets, this deal really depends on how the rest of this season goes. 

If they win a playoff series, they’ll be keeping Johnson. On the other hand, if they fail to advance past the play-in tournament, they may be forced to make other plans. 

In that event, this is a good deal for the Nets. An unprotected first-round pick is a quality asset. This team may flip it along with their surplus of draft capital for a star player down the road. 

They also end up off the hook for Johnson’s contract. Sure, Robinson’s is bad, but it’ll run shorter than Johnson’s, and have a lower annual value.
