Atlanta Hawks Receive: F Doug McDermott, G Devonte’ Graham, F Jeremy Sochan, 2024 First-Round Pick (TOR via SAS), 2025 First-Round Pick (ATL via SAS), 2026 First-Round Pick (ATL via SAS), 2027 First-Round Pick (ATL via SAS)
San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Trae Young
Something feels a little off about this deal for the Hawks.
Flipping Young for their own draft capital back doesn’t have the best optics. It almost feels like they’re not getting enough for him. After all, most of what they’re getting used to be theirs.
The operative word there is “used” to be. The Hawks traded these picks. If they’re going to get them back, they’ve got to give up something of value.
This is the modern NBA in a nutshell. First-round picks are the league’s currency. Meanwhile, a team’s own picks have more value than another team’s.
