Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal 

In all likelihood, the Lakers acquired Bamba as a more affordable version of Turner. 

Functionally, they’re similar. Bamba spaces the floor and he defends the rim. With that said, he simply doesn’t do either as well as Turner. 

Turner is also a better defender in space. They may be similar players, but Turner is considerably better. That’s effectively the logic behind this deal for the Lakers. 

After all, we should assume they’ll be back in win-now mode in 2023-24. LeBron James is still performing like an MVP candidate, but the Lakers shouldn’t count on that window to stay open for long.
