Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
For all of Towns’ offensive abilities, his defense is lackluster.
In all likelihood, that’s why the Timberwolves brought Rudy Gobert in this summer. Unfortunately, that hasn’t worked out so well. Partly, that’s because Towns struggles to guard the perimeter as much as he does the interior.
By contrast, Siakam is a stout defender. That’s the main appeal for the Wolves here – they’re giving Gobert a partner that can help him on defense, as opposed to one he’s got to cover for.
Meanwhile, they don’t lose that much on offense, either.

Siakam isn’t quite as impactful on that end, but he’s actually a superior playmaker, and he keeps the floor spaced as well.
Should the Raptors be moving on from him?
