Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal
You’ve probably pieced this one together already. The Nets do this deal to add a smart, scrappy role player.
If there’s any hesitation on their end, it’ll have to do with Vanderbilt’s fit with some of their current core. Between him, Simmons, and Defensive Player of the Year candidate Nic Claxton, the Nets would have plenty of non-shooters.
That’s fine. The Nets are specifically built to sustain such role players. With Durant and Irving on the floor, they automatically have enough spacing as long as they’re joined by one of Seth Curry or Joe Harris.
As long as the three non-shooters aren’t on the court at the same time, they’ll be fine.

Moreover, adding Vanderbilt means the Nets can have an elite defender on the floor for 48 minutes a night. All told, this is a quality addition for a contending team to make.
Should the Jazz allow them to make it?
