Brooklyn Nets Receive: F/C Jarred Vanderbilt
As vital as role players are, they aren’t as important as stars.
At the end of the day, star players run the NBA. Imagine a team full of Vanderbilt clones. Sure, they’d be tough to score on, but with their lack of shot-creating abilities, they might go 0-82 in an NBA season.
By contrast, a team full of stars will win plenty of games – even without a Vanderbilt. In recent years, the Brooklyn Nets have tried to test that theory in an extreme way.
At first, they assembled a trio of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. When it didn’t work with Harden, they flipped him for Ben Simmons.
