Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal

They could use another decent defensive big in their rotation. Even at his advanced age, Young ought to be able to provide value in that area. In all likelihood, he’s sitting in Toronto because they have a plethora of younger options. 

The Mavericks do not. Young should be a rotation player here. Meanwhile, Porter Jr. is the type of player they could use in 2023-24 if he gets healthy. 

Still, moving on from Bertans doesn’t hurt. All told, this is a good financial deal for the Mavericks that should make them a little better, too.
