It’s one thing when a star player quickly declines. When it happens to a role player, it can be an issue.
After all, they weren’t such an impactful player in the first place. In all likelihood, they didn’t have that margin for error.

Often, this is how bad contracts come to be. A player is paid in accordance with their level of production. When that production falls off, the contract can’t be renegotiated.
