Why The Oklahoma City Thunder Do The Deal
Some may suggest that shifting into win-now mode is premature for these Thunder.
Fair. At the same time, the Thunder are far behind teams like the Houston Rockets, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, and Charlotte Hornets in the race to the bottom. Arguably, they’ve already shifted into win-now mode.
That’s not such a bad thing. This is a young roster headlined by one of the league’s youngest superstars in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Meanwhile, they’ll be welcoming Chet Holmgren in his delayed rookie year next season.
They may as well call off the rebuild. They’ll still have plenty of draft capital left to trade for a star whenever they’d like to following this deal.
