Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal 

This deal shouldn’t make the Hawks any better in 2022-23. 

They’re moving the best player in the trade. None of the guys they’re receiving here are as impactful as Hunter. With that said, it could benefit them this summer. 

After all, they’re acquiring a first-round pick. That’s an asset to use in a win-now trade. This is a “chess, not checkers” move for the Hawks. 

On the other hand, it may not sink them in the short term, either. There’s some immediate value in this return.
