Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal 

This deal doesn’t make the Knicks serious title contenders. Hayward is good, but he hasn’t been on that level since a devastating injury several seasons ago. 

Of course, the Knicks would know that. This deal isn’t about launching themselves into contention. It’s about making a marginal gain. 

For a team in the Knicks’ situation, that’s key. After all, the Knicks clearly don’t intend on tanking to land franchise-altering talent. They intend on trading for it. 

They shouldn’t have an issue doing so. This team has one of the best collections of draft capital in the NBA.
