Why The Orlando Magic Do The Deal 

If teams measured a player’s trade value by their draft stock, this would be a horrible deal for the Magic. 

They don’t. Teams pay for production. Unfortunately, Bamba hasn’t provided much of it throughout his NBA career so far. 

With that in mind, this is a case of better than nothing. A pair of second-round picks is…something? If the Magic scout well, they could unearth a diamond with one of these selections. 

Still, the primary benefit here is simply getting off of Bamba’s contract – and acquiring Powell’s expiring deal. That will give the Magic some financial flexibility heading into 2023-24.
