It’s worth noting that this deal doesn’t fix Dallas. They still need a secondary ball-handler behind Doncic. The Mavericks probably won’t win the NBA title this year unless they acquire one.
At the same time, they’re not giving up any major assets here. Wood’s league-wide reputation has taken a hit – he’s unlikely to influence a deal for a star player.
