At full health, the Clippers may be uniquely designed to compensate for Wood’s shortcomings.
Many NBA teams don’t expect defense from their best players. If they’re carrying the offense, that’s enough of a burden. The Clippers, on the other hand, know what they’ll get in terms of point prevention from Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
With the team’s two best players being stout defenders, the Clippers may be able to afford a defensive liability in the rotation. After all, Wood is a significant contributor on the opposite end of the floor.
That may count for a lot for these Clippers. Unfortunately, Leonard and Geoge share another commonality – they both get injured frequently.

By adding Wood, they’d have someone to carry the offense when the two stars need some rest.
