Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
We mentioned this deal was risky for Miami. All of that risk has to do with Ball’s health.
By now, it feels fair to say that he’s an injury liability. That’s unfortunate. After all, Ball is an extremely useful player when he’s healthy.
That’s why the Heat would acquire him, of course. Ball is a Swiss army knife of a player. In half-court sets, he functions as an elite 3-and-D guard, but in transition, he’s a playmaker with remarkable floor vision. That happens to be exactly the type of player the Heat need.
That holds especially true with Kyrie Irving showing his age. Of course, the risk is that Ball remains plagued by injury, and the Heat gift the Bulls a lottery pick.
