Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal
Firstly, the Raptors probably shouldn’t do this deal unless Anunoby is truly unhappy. With that said, if he is, this is good value for them.
Realistically, that value starts with the first-round pick. If the Raptors are forced to move Anunoby, that should be the starting price. At the same time, the Raptors are 6-5. They aren’t tanking – they should need quality players in return.
This deal lands them two. The Raptors are light on traditional big men. Dwight Powell would give them a rim-running, rim-protecting big that they haven’t had in quite some time.
Meanwhile, Finney-Smith will replace Anunoby’s 3-and-D prowess to some extent. Perhaps most importantly, he’ll do it without complaining.

Finney-Smith seems to have accepted that role in Dallas and thrives in it. If he doesn’t have more to offer, he still offers plenty.
