Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal 

As bad as the Lakers have been this season, most of the blame doesn’t usually land with Davis. 

More often, folks place it with Russell Westbrook. Plenty of fans are clamoring to see the Lakers move him. Fair enough. On the other hand, the Lakers will have to give up what precious future assets they have left in order to do so. 

That may be too tough of a pill for the front office to swallow. If so, trading Davis looms as a possibility. If the Lakers are going to go that route, they might as well acquire players that complement Westbrook. 

This deal brings in two. Porzingis offers more floor spacing at the 5 than Davis. Meanwhile, Kuzma boosts their frontcourt spacing as well and is a strong transition player to pair with Westbrook.

Finally, the Lakers actually gain some draft capital in this trade as well.
