In the NBA, stardom is a high bar. Most players will never reach it. 

Most know they won’t even have a chance. Being in the NBA alone is an accomplishment. There is plenty of pride in being a solid, rotational role player. 

Other players approach stardom, but never quite clear the bar. Meanwhile, others get a taste of it, only to have it snatched from them. 

Kristaps Porzingis is one of the former players. He’s a very good NBA player, but he was pegged for a level of stardom he hasn’t reached when entering the league.
