Why The Phoenix Suns Do The Deal 

Of course, Crowder’s trade request didn’t come out of thin air, either. 

Realistically, the Suns’ deep cast of quality wings forced him out of the starting lineup. Cam Johnson earned his spot at the 4, and obviously, the Suns won’t be replacing Mikal Bridges at the 3. Crowder is the odd man out. 

However, we can’t say the same for the Suns’ guard depth. Their starting backcourt of Chris Paul and Devin Booker is elite, but Cameron Payne is probably not a sufficient lead reserve.

The Suns could use an upgrade in that respect.

Kendrick Nunn may be one. If nothing else, he’s at least flashed more potential as an offensive player than Payne. If Crowder is officially a distressed asset, he may be the best return the Suns can hope for in exchange for him.
