Of course, when we refer to a unicorn player, we’re referring to a player with a skill set that’s so rare, it’s akin to a unicorn. 

There was a time in NBA history when any frontcourt player who could shoot threes would have met that description. After all, shooting was a guard’s job, right? A power forward or center was expected to be on the low block. 

Those days are long gone. Players are no longer limited by such restraints. In today’s game, players are encouraged to do whatever they do best – and, in fact, teams seek out floor spacing in the front court all the time. 

With that in mind, players who offer shooting in the front court tend to receive big contracts. Sometimes, those contracts end up looking a little too big.

Such is the case for Davis Bertans. His sweet shooting earned him a nice payday, but his defensive limitations sometimes keep him off the basketball court.
