Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
Remember our hypothetical merging of McGee and Wood?
Myles Turner is about as close as the Mavericks are getting. Realistically, he should be about all they need, too. His ability to space the floor will be perfect for maximizing passing and driving lanes for Luka Doncic.
Frankly, McGee is probably the odd man out of Dallas’ rotation if this deal transpires. Wood can still play at the 4, and get spot minutes at the 5 when Head Coach Jason Kidd wants to play faster. Either way, the ability to shoot will prove a benefit at both positions for Dallas.
Parting with a first-round pick is never easy. At the same time, the Mavericks have a franchise player, and they’re built to win now.
Sparing expenses could be a way to alienate Doncic – no first-round pick is worth that outcome.
After all, players with his skillset are even rarer than a unicorn.
