Why The Los Angeles Lakers Do The Deal 

Some Lakers fans won’t love this deal. After all, Nunn had some ardent supporters within their fanbase. 

Fair enough. At the same time, he’s been a non-factor to begin 2022-23. More significantly, this whole deal assumes that the Lakers won’t be willing to do what it takes to move Westbrook. As long as he, Patrick Beverley, and Lonnie Walker IV are on this roster, Nunn’s path to significant playing time may be impeded. 

If the Lakers intend on moving forward with Westbrook, they need to put better pieces around him. Pieces like, for example, Doug McDermott. He’s one of the best three-point shooters in the entire NBA. 

Moreover, this isn’t strictly about working with Westbrook. This Lakers team is generally lacking in three-point shooting.

If they want to turn this season around and play for the championship, they’ll need to fix that – Westbrook or not. If they can, they may still be able to give their fans a reason to be optimistic.
