Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
This won’t be an easy call for the Wolves to make. It’s not one they should make immediately, either.
Luckily, it’s one they wouldn’t be able to if they tried. After all, the recently extended Towns isn’t eligible to be moved until January 3rd. If the Wolves are still hovering around .500 by then, they will have to have some serious conversations.
Trading Towns would be drastic. At the same time, Gobert won’t have nearly the same value, and trading the much younger Edwards should be a non-starter.
If the situation in Minnesota becomes untenable, this could be the Wolves’ best chance at making the most out of a bad situation.
After all, Edwards did say that he plays best with quality floor spacing. This deal brings in plenty of it. All of Rozier, Washington, and Martin are excellent shooters.

Meanwhile, Rozier would be a quality secondary ball-handler and overall offensive option for the Wolves. This deal has them parting with the best player involved, but it does make them deeper.
Finally, the Lakers picks they’re receiving here have the potential to be extremely valuable. In time, the Wolves could even use them to trade for another star. They may not be looking to move Towns this year, but if they’re forced to, this is a lot of value in return for the star big man.
