Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
From the Hornets’ perspective, it’s hard to say whether this deal is about the present or the future.
At the present, they do need an upgrade at the center position. Valanciunas provides one. He’ll be a good pick-and-roll partner alongside Ball, and he spaces the floor as well. Still, the future assets may be more enticing here.
Dyson Daniels holds particular intrigue. He looks like the type of two-way playmaker with the versatility to play multiple positions that teams covet in 2022. Adding him alongside Ball should give the Hornets an even more potent offensive attack.
Of course, the Hornets also land a first-round pick here.

All things considered, this is a win-win deal for the Hornets. If it makes them better in 2022-23, great – if not, it should still better prepare them for the future.
