Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal
Some Sixers fans may not love this deal.
Granted, few would dispute that Markkanen is playing at a higher level than Harris this year. He’s a better ball-handler and shot-creator. The question is whether he’s a better fit for the Sixers.
Perhaps not. Still, the Sixers are 0-4. If their losing ways continue, they shouldn’t be able to pass up on a pure talent upgrade.
Moreover, Harris’ contract could impede any efforts to improve this team next summer. An added benefit of the deal is that they break it up into a couple of smaller contracts.

If there’s a star for them to land next summer, they should be able to move either Markkanen or Clarkson.
On the other hand, either one of these players could help them avoid a disappointing 2022-23 season.
