Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
The Celtics’ interest in this trade may hinge on Robert Williams III’s recovery.
If he appears poised to be part of another playoff run, this becomes a lot more appealing. After all, Horford is a 5/4, whereas Green is more of a 4/5. Positionally, he makes more sense next to Williams III.
Of course, those positional designations are borne from playstyle. Green is an elite perimeter stopper who can defend the rim when required too. On the other hand, Horford can survive in space, but he’s best utilized as a rim protector.
Since Williams III especially thrives in that area, adding the more perimeter-oriented Green could give the Celtics an even more dominant defense.
