Ironically, the Raptors could tank. If they shipped off some of their veterans for young players and picks this year, they’d have a 2023 pick to maximize. 

Yet, something tells us this organization won’t. For starters, they never have. Moreover, the Raptors were the 5th seed in the Eastern Conference in 2021-22: they’re closer to the top of the standings than the bottom. 

With that in mind, why not go for it? Acquiring LaVine doesn’t only take the Raptors out of the running for Wembanyama – it could put them in pursuit of the NBA championship. 

After all, LaVine would be teaming up with Fred VanVleet in one of the most offensively gifted backcourts in the NBA.
