Why The Toronto Raptors Do The Deal

It’s hard to say whether the Raptors would do this deal if Anunoby isn’t actually unhappy. At the same time, we wouldn’t rule it out.

After all, Patrick Williams would be a perfect fit with this roster. As the fourth overall pick in the 2019 Draft, Williams has flashed the potential to be an elite 3-and-D wing in this league when healthy.

Moreover, he doesn’t appear to fancy himself as a primary ball-handler, either. He’ll compliment Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes on both sides of the ball.

Meanwhile, Coby White could be a fantastic sixth man for this team. Granted, he hasn’t quite looked the part of a lottery pick in his young career so far.

On the other hand, the Raptors have a great developmental program – they should be able to get the most of out of White.

Finally, the Raptors get Portland’s first-round pick via Chicago here: mind you, it’s lottery protected. That’s fine. If any team is likely to avoid tanking this year, it may be Portland. This organization is known to avoid the practice and should be as competitive as possible in 2022-23.

If the Raptors do get their selection, they may want to avoid drafting a ball-handler.
