With that said, in theory, you can’t have too many ball handlers on an NBA team. Having multiple players who are a threat with the rock in their hands always throws a defense off-kilter.
In practice, it’s a little different. You can’t have too many ball-handlers – as long as a capable ball-handler or two is willing to accept an off-ball role, that is. More often than not, that isn’t the case.
Moreover, we can’t blame NBA players for wanting to use the tools they have. If you’re a dynamic on-ball creator, why would you be content to stand in the corner waiting for a pass?
As a general rule, you’d prefer to have floor-spacers alongside your ball-handlers: guys that know they’re best suited for off-ball duties.

With that said, Anunoby’s ball-handling abilities are more theoretical than proven. To no fault of his own, he hasn’t been given many opportunities with the ball during his tenure in Toronto.
