Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
Frankly, there would appear to be an obvious ceiling on the Hawks as currently constructed.
The spacing on this team is poor. Granted, they can shift John Collins to the 5, but like the Rockets before them, they’d be ceding a size advantage in doing so (albeit, a lesser one). Meanwhile, with Clint Capela in the starting lineup, they’ll be fielding two poor floor spacers at once between him and Murray.
That doesn’t fly in the modern NBA. On the other hand, the Hawks need Capela’s rim protection to offset Young’s weak perimeter defense. Enter Myles Turner.
In fact, Turner is one of the better rim protectors in the NBA. More crucially here, he’s one of its best floor-spacing big men as well.

All told, it’s hard to imagine a better-fitting big man to make this talented, but potentially awkward backcourt, fit.
Is Capela the right addition for the Hornets?
