Realistically, Knicks fans should be envious of Sixers fans. Truth be told, they don’t have a star player to even begin putting role players around.
Some Knicks fans will protest that claim. Granted, Julius Randle looked the part of a star in 2020-21. On the other hand, he regressed mightily in 2021-22. Until he proves otherwise, Randle’s 2020-21 season should be viewed as an outlier.
Meanwhile, RJ Barrett may get there too – but he hasn’t yet. On the other hand, the Knicks do have the means to acquire a star. This team is flush with draft capital. With that in mind, they might as well improve their roster where they can.
This deal helps them do so. Moreover, Rose is expendable in light of having signed Jalen Brunson this summer.
