Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal
For the Sixers, this is about roster balance.
After all, they acquired both P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr. this summer. While neither of those players is as dynamic as Harris offensively, they don’t need to be for the Sixers.
This team is built around Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey: whoever plays the 4 will simply be responsible for spacing the floor. Tucker and House can both handle that as well as Harris.
Meanwhile, the Sixers’ guard rotation is a little thin behind the two starters. As of now, De’Anthony Melton looks like the lead guard. That’s fine, but Rose would be a huge upgrade.

For that matter, even Fournier is probably an improvement. All told, this deal improves Philly’s depth. They may be giving up the best player in it, but if they don’t need his full range of skills in the first place, improving their roster balance seems prudent.
Is this a smart deal for the Knicks?
