Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal
The Blazers shouldn’t jump to make this deal. If they start 2022-23 off hot, they should maintain their depth. On the other hand, if they start off especially cold, they may want to consider operating as sellers and joining the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.
In other words, the Blazers should look at this deal if they have a middling start. If they look decent but could use an edge to launch them into serious contention, this could be the deal. After all, few players play with more edge than Draymond Green.
We doubt Damian Lillard would protest this move. In fact, he outwardly campaigned for the Blazers to pursue Green the last time his contract was due for renewal. Lillard has been pining to play with quality defensive wings for years.
In all likelihood, that’s why the Blazers got Hart and Payton II – not to mention Jerami Grant. Still, Green is a more impactful defender than any of them. With his addition, who knows?
