Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
Of course, just as the Knicks will use the time between now and the 15th to monitor Reddish, the Heat should do the same with Oladipo. There’s a world where he’s too valuable for them to spare in exchange for Reddish.
On the other hand, there’s a world where Oladipo is officially washed. Realistically, this deal only makes sense under a precise set of circumstances: Oladipo is playing roughly to expectations, and Reddish isn’t playing at all.
In that event, this could make sense for the Heat. If they’re able to tap Reddish’s potential, he could be much more productive than Oladipo. In theory, he’s a 3-and-D wing who offers some secondary shot creation as well.
In other words, he’s exactly the player every contender needs – in theory. This is, as we’ve stated, a risk. The Heat may be giving up modest assets for nothing in this scenario.
