Why The Detroit Pistons Do The Deal
This trade would represent a change of plans for the Pistons.
After all, they surely acquired Walker, along with Nerlens Noel and Alec Burks from the New York Knicks this summer. In all likelihood, the idea was to add some quality, role-playing veterans to their young core and make an effort to get more competitive.
Sometimes, plans change. If the Lakers offered this deal, the Pistons would have to consider it. They may feel ready to finish their rebuild, but they won’t have serious title ambitions in 2022-23. Adding young players should still have an intrinsic value to this organization.
Realistically, the 23-year-old Brown Jr. is the main draw for Detroit here. He’s flashed some potential in the NBA as an athletic 3-and-D wing. With that said, 19-year-old Max Christie is a sensible acquisition for them as well.
