Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal
Firstly, we’ll give some credit to Richaun Holmes. He’s a solid defensive big, and a capable impact player in this league.
Doesn’t that make him the last player the Spurs should be acquiring?
Sure. On the other hand, Holmes is more of a ceiling raiser than a floor raiser. He’s not capable of carrying a team to wins on his own. Realistically, the Spurs may do well to give him some minutes, showcase his abilities, and flip him to a playoff team needing a big man as the season wears on.
In the meantime, he’s simply here to make the money work. This is a pretty low-stakes deal for the Spurs – they’re acquiring a pair of second-round picks for a player who isn’t likely to net them a first-rounder.
