Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal
For the Kings, this is a pure talent grab. The fit with LeVert and their current roster is, to say the least, imperfect.
After all, this team is already built around two below-average floor spacing playmakers in Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox. Given that LeVert fits that same description, he may struggle to co-exist with the two. What are the Kings doing here?
In all likelihood, acquiring their new sixth man. If LeVert is content to carry the second unit while his star teammates sit, he could provide a lot of value to the Kings.
Meanwhile, all they’re parting with is a player they’re likely to underuse in Holmes, and a second-round pick. After all, Holmes absolutely cannot play with Sabonis – pairing the two would leave the Kings with zero floor spacing or perimeter defense at both the 5 and the 4.

If he’s only going to be a backup anyway, the Kings might as well nab a backup that can carry the second unit’s offense.
Hopefully, that’ll make for a tasty enough recipe to carry this team into the postseason.
