Before we talk about this trade from each team’s point of view, let’s talk about point guards in 2022. 

Until recently, point guards were assumed to be a team’s primary playmaker. That was their role. On the other hand, the modern NBA era has thrown most of the league’s old conventions out of the window. 

By now, point guards can fill all sorts of roles. Some are among the league’s best scorers. Meanwhile, others are mainly responsible for spacing the floor. In some instances, they may play alongside a forward whose responsible for making most of the plays.

A forward like, for example, LeBron James. Unfortunately, his starting point guard provided very little floor spacing during the 2021-22 season.
