Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal 

The Jazz have obvious incentives here. The entire NBA world is expecting them to consider this package this summer. Surely, there’s a good reason. 

Clearly, that good reason is not the acquisition of Russell Westbrook. In fact, that’s entirely incidental to the Jazz. In all likelihood, they’d either buy him out or treat him to an extended vacation. 

No, the Jazz are flipping two veterans for two first-round picks in this transaction. They’re about to enter year one of a rebuild, so draft capital ought to be their primary concern for the summer. 

Following this deal, they’d have plenty of it. In fact, they’d have a collection only rivaled by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Moreover, the two picks they’re landing here are particularly enticing.
