Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
Having completed the Mitchell trade, the Cavaliers are in good shape. Between him, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen, they’ll have four starters who could conceivably feature in the All-Star game next season. Still, they’re in need of a fifth starter.
Obviously, they’re looking for someone to fill the small forward position. On the other hand, Bogdanovic may not be the perfect fit. He’s a serviceable defender, but not exactly a strong one. The Cavaliers may opt to pursue someone who can help cover for their offensively gifted but exceedingly small backcourt.
At the same time, they also feature an exceedingly large frontcourt. The pairing of Allen and Mobley gives the Cavs some wiggle room here.
Allen is an elite drop coverage rim protector, and Mobley is already among the most versatile big men in the NBA. An average defender like Bogdanovic may suffice alongside those two.

That holds especially true when you consider the presence of Cedi Osman. He may be overtaxed as a starter, but he’s a high-end backup.
Small forward will remain the weakest position on this roster, but that mostly speaks to the roster’s strength. Between Bogdanovic and Osman, the Cavaliers will have a solid platoon at the position.
After all, Bogdanovic is a solid veteran. Are the Jazz getting enough back for him and Conley?
