Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal
Realistically, cutting ties with Reddish won’t mean much to the Knicks. In fact, it’s something they were always likely to do this summer.
That’s partly because they didn’t seem to have a use for him anyway. Reddish quickly fell out of their rotation after being traded to the team from the Atlanta Hawks at last year’s trade deadline. Now, it appears Reddish would like a change of scenery.
Assuming his rumored trade request is real, this makes perfect sense for the Knicks. Furthermore, they’ll be happy to shed Randle’s long-term deal in exchange for Hayward’s shorter one. This deal is about clearing long-term cap space for the Knicks as much as anything else.
After all, we know the Knicks aggressively pursued Donovan Mitchell in the trade market.
