Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal
The Hornets have both short and long-term goals they hope to accomplish with the trade.
In the short term, they’ll hope to replace Miles Bridges with Randle. Granted, the two don’t make for a perfect comparison. Randle isn’t the athlete that Bridges, so he won’t give the Hornets the same devastating two-man game that Bridges did in transition throughout 2021-22.
At the same time, Randle is a more gifted playmaker. He should make the Hornets less predictable in half-court sets, as they’ll be less reliant on Ball.
Realistically, his value to the Hornets in 2022-23 will hinge on his three-point shooting. Randle has been inconsistent in that regard, but if he can match his best career marks, he’ll improve the team next year.

Otherwise, taking a flier on Reddish could benefit this team in the long run. He hasn’t lived up to his lofty pre-draft expectations in the NBA yet, but at 23, he absolutely still has the potential to.
If he does develop into the 3-and-D wing with secondary shot creation that many scouts envisioned, he could be a perfect fit alongside Ball.
Should the Knicks really cut ties with his potential?
