Why The Utah Jazz Do The Deal

With that said, if this deal does go down, it will be interesting to see what the Jazz do with Russell Westbrook. Realistically, it will tell us a lot about where his career stands.
The Jazz could keep Westbrook, and even play him. At the risk of being harsh, his style of play hasn’t necessarily led to wins in recent years. If the Jazz are concerned with maximizing their lottery odds, Westbrook may not impede on that goal.
Alternatively, the Jazz could just sit him for the season, or buy him out. In that event, Westbrook will likely have two options: sign a small contract for a small role with a contender, or go play for another MVP award – overseas.

Either way, it won’t be Utah’s problem. They’re landing two first-round picks here, and perhaps more importantly, maximizing the odds of their own first-round pick netting a star player.
